Jorginho and Willian’s reactions as Ross Barkley misses penalty
The penalty was one of the main talking points from Chelsea’s Champions League defeat against Valencia,
There was a dramatic end to Chelsea’s return to Champions League action.
With the Blues trailing by one goal to nil against struggling Valencia, VAR stepped in to help award a penalty to Chelsea for a handball in the dying minutes of the game. It presented the chance for Frank Lampard’s men to grab a point from a match that was starting to run away from them.
There was a wait as the referee made his way over to the screen on the far side of the pitch to review the footage after initially waving away the penalty claims from Blues’ players.

Shouts of ‘VAR’ could be heard around Stamford Bridge as the official made the signal to indicate that Chelsea would have the chance to score an equaliser from 12 yards.
Ross Barkley was the first Chelsea player to claim the ball, and was determined not to let it go, insistent that he would be the player to take responsibility for the high pressure kick.
However, some of his teammates didn’t seem so keen for the England international to step up, with Willian and Jorginho approaching the midfielder to try and convince him otherwise,
Jorginho has been Chelsea’s regular penalty taker in recent times, scoring a crucial penalty in extra time during the Super Cup final against Liverpool. Willian has also successfully taken penalties for the Blues.
But, Barkley won out on the argument, placing the ball on the spot.
However, the penalty didn’t work out how Barkley would have hoped, with the ball ricocheting back off the bar.
